On an usual day, something unusual happens in a paid TV station… Dak bursts into the customer service department and taking hostages. It turns out Dak doesn’t want money but to “terminate the TV subscription service”, while Inspector Shan suspects Dak may be a terrorist in disguise and is ready to deploy the SWAT team… The hostages understand that the cancellation procedure is complicated, and turns out helping Dak by calling hotlines and filling forms. This special event brings together acclaimed Hong Kong screenwriter and director MAK Tin Shu (麦天枢) and Singapore filmmaker Kelvin SNG (孙立人) for a candid Director on Director conversation. This free public session explores the conviction and resilience that have shaped their respective journeys—from MAK’s award-winning screenplay for Trivisa《树大招风》 to SNG’s commercial breakthrough with Taxi! Taxi!《德士当家》.

Moving between Hong Kong and Singapore, the directors will discuss the films that shaped their careers, the realities of reaching audiences and the box office, and how the language, culture and character of each city influence their storytelling. The conversation will also spotlight MAK’s feature directorial debut, Dog Day Evening《一个部门的诞生》, and SNG’s latest project, the dystopian psychological thriller Scam City《诈欺之城》, before looking ahead to their aspirations and the

possibilities for greater collaboration between the two filmmaking communities.

The conversation will be conducted in Mandarin with some Cantonese and simple English translation provided.
